JAIPUR: First it was former BJP minister Nathu Singh, who donned grease paint to feature in silver screen on a film on the life of Gujjar''s godman Deonarain. This Nathu Singh starrer was a great success in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh and not only people from the Gujjar, but other community also saw the movie. Now the news is former Congress minister Bina Kak is appearing on the silver screen.
Director David Dhawan, who has scores of hits to his credit is featuring Bina in a character role which has Salman Khan in the lead and Sushmita Sen in the female lead with Katarina Kaif in a supportive role.
David Dhawan has not named the film as yet and the film would see Bina playing the role of Salman''s mother. The film is a comedy and deals with the life surrounding us and how humour plays its role in our everyday life.
Bina is not alone in the movie, while the mother is making her debut as an actress, the daughter Amrita, who is fondly called Chhoti in the same movie will appear as a playback singer. Music director Harmesh Reshamiya who is scoring the music for the film heard Amrita singing and asked her if she was ready to become a playback singer.
Director Dhawan also heard her and readily agreed to give her a break in his untitled film. Reshamiya has already recorded her. Amrita who did her schooling at Ajmer''s Mayo College is studying in Mumbai''s famous St Xavier College. It was while in school she developed a passion for music. It''s a rare occasion in the history of Bollywood that both mother and daughter would make their debut through the same film.
Its interesting to know that it was Salman Khan who recommended David Dhawan to try Bina Kak to portray the mother''s role in the movie. Bina knows Salman''s family very well and when Salman caught into problem with the shooting of deer near Jodhpur and was arrested, it was Bina who landed moral support to Salman and his family.
"Salman is a very sensitive person and has been wrongly dubbed as a reckless person by the media. I know him and his family very well, they are a very cultured family and father Salim Saheb is a great writer. It was Salman who first asked me why not I act in films. He said I possess a face which would be readily accepted by the filmgoers. He found that I have the poise and potential to be an actress. I thought Salman was pulling my leg. But to my great surprise he discussed with David Dhawan the idea of featuring me as Salman''s mother in the movie and Dhawan after meeting me proposed to work for his movie. It was so instantaneous that I could not believe myself. When daughter Amrita also passed the voice test and was finally approved to lend her voice for the song in the movie, it brought immense joy to the family. I had about 20 days shooting and all the crew members helped me in doing my role," said Bina.
Bina while in school and later in college at Udaipur had participated in plays and this background not only helped her in making public speeches, but also helped to face the camera. "Those who are in politics or public life with little effort could handle any situation. I also prepared myself while facing the camera for the first shot keeping in view my public background. I told myself that there you act according to a situation, here you have to act as per the demands of the script. I pressed my nerves and got the desired results and the shot was OK. After this, I went on building brick by brick. It was a very good experience," added Bina.
Bina Kak who was a minister in successive Congress governments held the post of forest minister and prior to that she was tourism minister. She lost the last Vidhan Sabha election from Sumerpur, but she never lost contact with the people of the constituency.
